GRANUM - components
1.
GRANUM/RE - Re-engineering, re-
mediation, restructuring, removal of old
language constructs, elimination of branch
instructions and so forth.
2.
GRANUM/RF - Refactoring, i.e. fully
automated segregation into small modules
which can be invoked individually (so-
called ”SOA-fication”). This makes it
possible to embed the functional modules
as services into an ESB (enterprise service
bus).
3.
GRANUM/FO - Formatting, beautifying.
improving readability, enforcing coding
standards.
4.
GRANUM special components address
subjects like the removal of old generators,
decision tables or embedded macros,
GRANUM - Re-Engineering and Refactoring for COBOL
Huge amounts of COBOL - maybe a bit out
of shape, but proven and precious
GRANUM was developed in the light of many
hundred millions of COBOL lines being used in IT
production worldwide.
This code has grown out of shape through years
and years of maintenance and change:
•
programs became much too big and often
hard to read
•
embedding in a SOA is impossible
•
the logic is spoiled by GO TO instructions
•
reminiscences of old code generators
should long have been eliminated, but no
one dares to do it
•
scope terminators are missing or not
consequently used
•
a better structuring of the code is highly
advisable, but the risk to do this manually
is much too big

GRANUM modernises COBOL applications
with a revolutionary approach
GRANUM modernises and restructures COBOL
programs fully automated. It removes old
language constructs and can re-factor into arbitrary
single modules of any size. These modules can
then be integrated as services into a SOA.
GRANUM contains several components, which are
closely interacting. GRANUM is also designed to
cooperate with other modernisation rule sets.
